Avoid injuries by managing your recovery with objective physiological feedback. Physical and psychological stress causes an increase in sympathetic (flight or fight) activity resulting in higher heart rates, and an increase in stress hormones throughout the body. The time needed to restore pre-exercise autonomic nervous system depends on the level of exercise you do or the amount of psychological stress you have. High intensity exercise, duration of exercise, poor sleep, poor nutrition, work stress are some of the things that stimulate the sympathetic nervous system and impact recovery. How do we measure this? Parasympathetic activity is one marker we measure and monitor and is associated with a better recovery and readiness to perform and function in everyday life. At SquareONE Rehabilitation we use the Omegawave as an output measure that helps the clinician deliver the appropriate recovery intervention to assist with autonomic nervous system regulation and aid in recovery. Below are the central components that make up an Omegawave assessment.
Central Nervous System Readiness;
Both CNS Readiness & DC-Potential indexes are plotted on convenient, intuitive graphs. Track your athletes’ level of activation and monitor the impact of environmental stressors and training loads on each individuals’ central nervous system. Avoid injuries by managing your recovery with trend graphs and objective physiological feedback. Reach beyond your limits and test the results. Train efficiently, stay on track, and set the next mark even farther out.
Cardiac System Readiness via Heart Rate Variability:
Based on Heart Rate Variability (HRV), our Cardiac Readiness score indicates how efficiently your body has recovered from previous training or stress. Determines how Sympathetic (“Fight or Flight”) and the Parasympathetic (“Rest & Digest”) branches of your Autonomic nervous system regulate cardiac function. For example exercise is stress to the body and there is physiological markers that can be measured by the Omegawave. High intensity training is very intense with the release of many stress hormones in the body. Too much release of these “stress hormones”, can impact you negatively. This can be identified by the Omegawave, This output measure helps the clinician deliver the appropriate treatment intervention to assist with autonomic nervous system regulation and aid in recovery. This is one of the ways the Omegawave can be used.
Energy Supply System;
Track how your athletes’ aerobic and anaerobic energy systems respond to training and recovery. Omegawave's proprietary algorithm has a close look at the electrical changes at the QRS and ST segment of the ECG.
